Prince Tamino is rescued just in time from a giant serpent by the Queen of the Night's three ladies, who show him a portrait of her daughter Pamina, and he falls in love at once. Together with the quirky bird catcher Papageno, he sets out to find her, only to learn she is held by the sun priest Sarastro. To win back the women they love, Tamino and Papageno must face difficult ordeals. The performance runs about three hours including one interval, sung in German with German and English surtitles.
