This opera tells the story of Rigoletto, a court jester who mocks the families of women seduced by his duke. A grieving father curses him after his daughter is dishonoured. Rigoletto hides his own daughter Gilda from the duke, but she falls for him anyway. Plotting revenge, Rigoletto sets a deadly trap, only for Gilda to become its victim instead. The opera is a melodrama in three acts, composed by Giuseppe Verdi in 1851, with a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave based on a play by Victor Hugo. Recommended for ages 12 and up.
