In this new production by Staatsballett Berlin, choreographer Christian Spuck turns to E.T.A. Hoffmann's original novella rather than the familiar festive version, putting the young Marie and her fantastical dream world at the centre of the story. Set to Tchaikovsky's score, the ballet features transforming stage designs by Rufus Didwiszus and turn-of-the-century-inspired costumes by Emma Ryott.
